Sorry if I missed something, but I didn't have time to read all responses. I'll just say this:
I have met a couple folks from the boards, and really enjoy doing so. Since I travel I can do that from time to time.
I live in columbus Ohio which has a new national aquarium at the columbus Zoo (I haven't seen it yet so I can't endorse it). Just across the river in Kentucky (2 hours from Columbus if you drive assertively 3 hours if you drive like a sane person) is a very fine national aquarium. I have a mobile (Could go to indy, or cinci, or even as far as nashville if needed) barbecue pit that is capable of cooking up to 350 pounds of pork at once, or any other variation of barbecue desired (Have done everything from lobster to gator tail in the roaster) . I do my hog roasts at cost for friends and family. Columbus is accessable from detroit, dayton, indianapolis, and cincinnatti airports as well as that place we call an international airport over on the east side. For you folks from up north, there are multiple daily flights to Toronto, and flight time is only about 45 minutes, not to mention one very impressive view as you pass the lakes. Can't brag about the weather overall.
Columbus is a clean decent city, that is easy to navigate, and has ample facilities for any reasonably sized get together. Prices are fairly good.
It's a little off of central, but for those who prefer not to fly, it is reachable in 10 hours from Hartford, 6 from DC, 9 from Kansas city, 6 from St. louis, etc.
While there are plenty of good locations, Columbus is worth a look. I'm game for just about anywhere. Keep us posted.
