I just bought a crowntail (awesome looking might I add) but I'm not sure how to acclimate it to the 2.5 gal I have set up. Since its in the cup, I can't very well float it in the water like i would a bag. Should I just scoop him in? :dive2:

yeah bettas are super hardy
just drop him in

hardy yes but do you want to take that chance. take a piece of air tubingt place one side in the cup one in the tank. Tie a knot in it so that there is a slow drip from the tank to the cup and do that until the water is doubled in his cup. Then scoop just him out, do not put the cup water in with him. That is the best way IMO

You could pour him and the water into a bag and then float him in the tank for a bit...adding a bit of tank water to the bag a little at a time.....then pour him into a net, letting the bag water drain into the sink or a bucket...and add him to the tank.

I like the cup method, myself. Whatever you do, bag or cup, make sure there is a surface area for him to breath. Also, either make sure the cup or bag is *closed*. Bettas jump and he could jump out of the bag. I put the bag in the water with part of it under the hood and closed the hood. That way if he jumps he'll hit the hood and not end up on the floor.

Why not float the cup just like you do a bag. If it is one of the plastic cups like they are sold in you just have to float it longer for the heat to transfer. I have floated plastic containers with freesh water fish before and have not had a problem.

I'd think that would be the most logical solution, but I wonder about the blue-tinted water they're selling bettas in nowadays. Does anyone know what they put in it for that color? I'd worry about letting that water get into my tank and you can't keep a cup afloat past a certain point after you've added water in.

the blue tinted water they are sold in ... is just one of those bag buddies .. they help with air and also calming them down during transfers .. walmart even sells them... they wont hurt the water at all ..they are just lil fizzy pills you drop in..
and as far as aclimating any fish it is just better to just put them in the tank right away .. it puts less stress on the fish instead of floating in a bag and haveing a bunch of other eyes and mouths picking on him and it cant really do anything .. just put them in . they will b fine .. we have never had a problem doing it that way ..

With the blue water, if you have ever been at petsmart (and I know I should not use them as a standard) when their fish come in you will see that all their fish come in the blue water. They float their fish and then pour the water right in.
