Acclimating Fish Question

Hey,
I have been told to use the "drip method" many times to acclimate fish to a new aquarium. But the only problem is I am not quite sure how to do this. So if someone could please tell me step by step it would be greattly appriciated.

I always just use a piece of airline with a knot in it to control rate of flow. Simple and cheap.

Ok so let me get this strait. I place the fish into a rubbermaid container with the store water. I then run a piece of tube from the tank to the container so that water from the tank slowly drips into the container. I wait for how long? And then I am good to place the fish into the aquarium?

I would wait until there is about 5 times the amount of tank water in the tub compared to water he came in.

Ok, thanks. And the water should be dripping out / coming out very slowly correct?

I put an airline valve on my drip, so I can control the flow. Much easier than tying the knot. LOL

I usually set us a QT tank and set the params. as close to the LFS's as possible then I drip for 1-3 hours depending on the fish. Then over the next 4-6 weeks I slowly change to QT water to match what is in my display. I find this much less sterssful to the fish and since you should be QTing your new fish anyways it really doesn't make much more work for you.

I just drip into a plastic container if it's a sensative species I drip slowly until the container has about 4x the water the bag did over 4 hours same for inverts . For less sensative I drip water for about an hour until it's 4x.
