Ace25's 75G Build Thread

Thanks, I am pretty much calling this reef "Done". I know I bought more corals than my tank can handle once they start to grow out, but I can enjoy a pretty full reef now and later on when corals get bigger I can decide which ones stay or go.

Greg, as far as camera settings I just use Auto/Macro mode, no kidding. I think it is my 10K lighting that makes the tank and pictures come out so good because when I try to take pictures with my camera on someone elses tank that is running 14k or 20k lighting my pictures don't come out nearly as nice. I am a VERY amature photographer and never took a photo class. Like with most things electronic for me, first thing I do with anything electronic is go through every menu and play with every setting to see what does what and how it all works, then I actually use the device.. this goes for anything, computers, cameras, TVs, stereos, etc. As an example, when Vista came out on the PC first thing I did was go into the Control Panel and open everything up to see what is new, what got moved, and how everything works. That is just how my mind works. ;)

Yeah, I have some 14K lighting over my tank and I'm not too crazy about it. 10K is the way to go.

I'll give it a try and just go with the basic setting and use Macro and see if that helps. Shoot, I just ordered that 14000K MH Phoenix, Double-Ended bulb. Maybe on Monday I can call and switch to the 10000K.

As for tinkering with electronics, I guess the 20 years of being a network engineer, I got burned out on trying to keep up and learn every electronic device that came down the like. As long as I can get done what I need to, I'm happy. I did buy a macro lens and find that it give a round photo and then needs to be cropped.

22 years of daily "PC Tech" work, and last 18 of those also being a network administrator as well for me. ;) I still like to play and figure out electronics.. my biggest "pet peeve" is when people at work want me to tell them how to fix their home computer or do it for them. After this many years fixing other peoples computers, it really isn't something I want to do in my off hours.. hense the reason I got into aquariums.. :)

About the only thing I tinker with now that includes computers are the 3 CNC machines I have. One larger panel machine, one small metal engraving machine and a Styrofoam cutter. I'm also in the process of building a 5 axis machine. I still get calls to help out with home PC's but being away for the last 7 years, I don't know much any more.

I know I hate Windows Vista and hope v7 is better, meaner and leaner.

Just wanted to post this guy.. he IS the reason I built a floating reef in my tank. ;)

Engineer Goby, purchased August 2001 as a juvi. Here he is on the left as a little kid with my first LPS coral, a scolymia of all things.

And here he is today, almost 8 years old now and about 18" long.

Yup, everyone that comes over spots him and asks "When did you get an eel?" and I always have to explain to them it is not an eel. He lived in my 29G for over 6 years and taught me many lessons on proper ways to stack rock. ;) He always lived in the back though behind the rocks along the wall and rarely came out. Now that I have a huge tunnel in the middle he lives in there but comes out racing around the tank doing figure 8's all the time now, really cool to watch. The PVC frame is 18" long and he stretches end to end of the tunnel, so that is how figured out how long he is.
