Ace25's 75G Build Thread

It was setup non stop for 12 months. It was setup in June 08 but I had a leak with the tank and needed to tear it down and send it back for repair so my setup date was December 4th 2008 when I put it all back together and had it running from then on. Hair algae problem didn't start until around October of 09 but got terrible in December and that was when everything went to crap, about the second week in December, just a couple days after I sent out a frag pack to Conski, which I am grateful I sent it out when I did or I would have felt much worse because I had already made promises.

^it woulda been fine man! its not like you control that stuff i definitly wouldnt of held it to you!

btw man your lttle ATL true strawberry patch is getting some color and regrowing on the white spot, looks alot lke the monti but its a little brigther green, the polyps are nice though!

Yup, that is how a Strawberry patch monti should look, green base with red polyps, not a whitish base. Hence the name. That is what real strawberry patches look like, green with red dots (strawberries) throughout. Very similar to the Seasons Greeting monti except the strawberry is a cap type of monti and the seasons greetings is a encrusting/plating type of monti. The green base is a different shade of green on them though, Seasons Greetings is a much brighter, almost neon type of green.

yea its not as bright as the seasons greeting, its just getting its colors back so well see what happens! i am just glad its on the rode to recovery! when a coral is said to be encrusting does that mean it grow over whatever its on and sort of like take it over? and a cap type would means it grows up off of it?

those seasons greetings are beatiful btw, the sunny d's are growing heads pretty fast as well and the spongodes seems to be growing the fastest of them all besides that moutain super man lol (i might just try to put that in the pico)

A monti cap will grow upwards and usually make what looks like "Flower petals" as it grows, and will not really encrust much at all on the base of the rock, just enough to secure itself. With an encrusting/plating monti it will encrust all over the flat spots of a plug and rocks and only when it reaches the edge of a rock it will then plate straight outwards instead of growing down under the rock where it knows it won't get light. Encrusting montis wont grow upwards like a Cap will.

good luck Ace. Can we have some pics just to see how its doing?

still looks better then my reef

That was about 3 solid days of scrubbing rocks over a trashcan with a toothbrush. It was survival of the fittest time for the corals.. no more hoping things got better on their own so the corals may recover.. if there was a coral stuck on the rock it got taken out and scrubbed around the base as well.

Now I have a patch of red turf algae again on one rock, need to get a couple turbos to clean that up, they did a great job at it last time.

And no, that is not the final look of the tank, I will be rescaping it again soon once I see what makes it and what completely croaks.
