Some old wood flooring from the 70's. It was all messed up when I moved in and I have actually made it look better by using Rejuvinate on it.. but the landlord said it doesn't matter if the floor gets messed up because it is being replaced when I decide to move... which is a good thing because a the first year of learning reefs, sumps, overflow boxes led to a number of overflows during power outtages and wasn't too kind on the floor.
Then I guess I'll cut the carpet out where I plan on placing my stand. Hmm, since I have crawl space under the floor, I could put in a drain pipe just in case something happens. Maybe starting next week I can start getting things ready to set up the tank. Lumber Liquidator has a big sale going on right now.

I have a 150 gallon tank and I really don't like the look of power heads in the tank and I am thinking of a closed loop system but I am a little concerned about the water movement coming from behind my rocks. They are not tightly packed but instead are set up as ledges and caves. I have been trying to get more movement in front of the rocks with a couple Rio 2100s and 1 korilia 4. The problem is really with the Rios, they have such a hard stream that I get my sand all messed up if I try to point them in a way that gets more movement in the front and with the korilia I have to have it pretty much near the front pane and kind of low. I just don't like the look. I keep looking at your type of set up and wonder if it would be worth the work building the pvc floating stand, it looks like it would give more flow out front. I have a pond master 26 ( 2600 gph ) that I am using for my return but from some reading lately I have found that it is probably to much for the return and not allowing the sump to actually filter the water, so I was thinking about using it for the closed loop and then using one of the Rios for a return. Does this sound like a good idea or do you have any other thoughts. Thanks and sorry for being long winded.
I would definately use the 2600gph for a closed loop and not a return. I agree that is too much for a return and you won't get good filtration with it.
What do you mean your concerned about water movement from behind the rocks? You can split your output on your closed loop anyway imaginable to get exactly the flow you want so it isn't too powerful, same for intake.

I built a wall in my basement with the tank built into the wall and my wife wanted bookshelves on both sides of the tank so I don't really have the room for additional pluming on the sides. I know I could drop pvc in side the tank sides but I don't think I would like the look of that either. If I placed a couple of bulkheads in the top of the tank would it give enough circulation on the bottom without stirring up the sand too much ( the tank is 24" deep ). I'm just looking for alternatives. Thanks
