Ace25's 75G Build Thread

Not yet.. that is a weekend job after 2 days of prep work to go over every scenerio I can think of. For something this critical I want to really think it through before I just jump into it. I don't have any corals in danger from the flow on that side that is stuck open any more so no rush as long as everything still looks healthy. The large 40g waterchange was simply to easy my mind that there wasn't something toxic in the water causing the problems.. ended up pretty much breaking even with the waterchange with my ATO screw up. Good thing I was doing that big of a waterchange or else I may not have been able to dilute the kalk back down to a safe 8.4. Also, alk is always low on every Reefcrystal mix I have tried, tests around 7 for me, so the extra kalk probably helped balance it all out. In the morning everything looked great.. it is amazing how much the polyps are out in the mornings.

Maybe you could dig out enough sand to give the fish swimming room while you do the repair.

You know, after looking at my sand level again it does appear the front is about 1-2" lower than the back which is level with the PVC. Maybe I could dig another 1" front the front and push it towards the back when I drain the tank and have a small pool of water in the front against the glass. It won't be enough for an angel to swim in but at least it will be wet and in water. If everything goes as planned it will have about 2 minutes tops in that position. I have a Mag5 to pump water back in the tank and as soon as the repair is done I plug the pump in and start pumping water back in as quick as possible. fish should be able to be back swimming in under 3 minutes is the plan. I have seen people FW dip angels in small tupperware containers where they lay on their side for longer than 3 minutes.

Pic I took this morning as I was running out the door for work. Still amazed by the polyp extension on some corals in the morning.. This is my green prostrata. Kind of blurry on the polyps because they are out so far and getting whipped around, and with low lighting (moonlights) my camera has to have the shutter open longer to take the picture.. making things that are moving "fuzzy".

Well, in my agression of tapping the SCWD to see if I could get it going a few days back it appears as if I somehow broke the seal the teflon tape was creating on the bulkhead which is a FPT bulkhead with a 90 elbo screwed into it and 3/4" barb on the other end of the elbo for hose fitting. So I need to remove the 90 elbo and retape that as well. So, since I am going to do that, I may as well do the other side to make sure... which means... no fish in the tank. Logic won this round. I have never been completely happy with the aquascape anyway.. no matter how much I try in the beginning to not get a wall of rocks it seems to end up that way. It is very open now when you look closely, fish can swim in and out of rocks, but still looks like a big pile of rock in the pictures.

So.. plan for the coming week is to get all the water and tubs ready and the T (2) to replace both SCWDs so I don't run into this problem with the other one in a month from now. I also want to take off the Y splitter on my locline returns in the tank and just put a simple flare nozzle on the back bulkheads to clean up the look. Eventually I will get rid of my 2 koralia3s and put a Vortech powerhead on the right hand side and hopeully it will be about as clean of equipment in the tank as possible. Doing this will also give me a chance to really get at some problem mushrooms and aiptasia that I have never been able to get out.

Gonna be a long day when I press the go button, but I have been there several times just recently, so while stressful I know I will get through it.

Good luck and I hope it goes well for you. I'm glad you decided to do it the right way and not the short cut way. You'll be better off in the long run and the fish won't get as stressed as if they were flopping on the sand.

Good luck, hope everything works as planed.

Probably one of the last FTS of my tank before I tear it down and rebuild it. Just put in some seaweed and my fish go nuts over it. I am starting to get some diatom buildup on the left hand side as you can see in the picture because of the broken scwd not putting out flow on that side of the tank now.

Good luck with the repair. Like the eel! I didn't know they were reef safe. I guess they are.
