Ace25's 75G Build Thread

The bigger packs of seaweed come with a clip. But most LFS have different types of clips. I know Petsmart near me has at least 3 different types of clips, one being the shape of a clownfish.

Ace: aside from the noise (which is a pain) how do you like the flow of your new vortech? I have been keen to get one, but the dollars put me off. Interested to know what you think of the flow?

Flow is AMAZING. I like reefcrest mode the best. I think if I can find a way to mount it on the back wall I won't notice the noise of the motor as much. Short pulse mode was annoying sounding. It made a nice wave in the tank, but I don't think the type of wave it makes is really ideal for flow. It just pushes stuff back and forth in the same spot, not blowing it around. Knowing what I know now I probably would have went with the MP20. The wave part sounded so good before. The MP20, while a little less flow, also doesn't do short pulse mode, but it is a gimmick from what I have seen, looks nice for about 10 minutes, but the other type of flow built in is better. There is also a warning in the manual about the wave mode causing a lot of stress on the tank and can make it fail, so make sure your tank can handle that.

But as for the flow, it really is very broad like they say, you really don't have to worry about positioning it like you normally think of on any other powerhead. Just put it in the general area where you would like a powerhead and turn it on. Don't worry about the fact you can't angle it, when you see it work you quickly realize all that learning from previous powerheads goes out the window with this one. The undertow is creates is awesome too. I need to get a video if the flow because it really does move fast along the sand like you see in the ocean now. Way different type of flow than the koralias.

Oh ya, also, HUGE POLYP EXTENSION. Biggest I have ever seen on all my corals. Had a fellow reefclub member over checking it out earlier and we both were commenting on how great it looks.

Here are a couple examples of the polyp extension. The last one usually doesn't have much PE at all, now it looks fuzzy because they are out finally.

Now your making rethink powerheads. Glad the flow is amazing. My tank is long and narrow and it seems to be a pain to place a powerhead. I will have to give this some serious thought. the extension on your corals is incredible, great looking system.

Some new zoas I got for my 29G tank from fellow reefers at a BBQ/Frag swap I went to today in Santa Barbara. Got 1 frag for my 75G that I have wanted for a long time, nice piece of Rainbow Monti, will post a pic of that tomorrow.
