Ace25's 75G Build Thread

I have read a little that corals grow better under a more yellow light than the bright white light, why is this. I have heard people say that "yeah the corals grow great but I don't like the color in the tank". Thanks for any info.

Read that link. It kind of confirms what I have been thinking for many years now and people called me an idiot for thinking the way I do.

Bottom line, Actinic lights are more important to corals than the main light. Actinic light falls between the 420-460nm range. 100% out the output of actinics can be used for photosynthesis and corals absorb about 93% of the light, as opposed to only 75% of daylight. The article has a formula to get the correct lighting. I am sure going to follow that as soon as my meter comes in and see how it works. If you get a PAR reading you can get an accurate timeline for how long to keep your lights on to maximize zooxanthellae reproduction. Of course other major factors like water chemistry and flow have to be addressed as well.

In a nutshell, 'blue' light and a mixture of 'blue' 'red' and 'infrared' wavelengths were about the same in promotion of normal zooxanthellae reproduction (although the 'blue' light seems to be slightly more effective).
Exposure to only 'red' light significantly inhibits the productive cycle (is this the reason for the slightly less efficiency of the 'mixed' light?).

So I had a fun morning <sarcasm>.. got awaken by a nice pounding on my bedroom door by the sheriffs at 5am. Seems my roommate heard a noise outside (it was RAINING!) and he called the cops all scared, but didn't bother knock on my door to wake me up and let me know what was going on. So.. 3 cops show up and I get grilled for 30 minutes on why I have about 80 gallons of water in containers in my kitchen and why I have a digital scale (type you get at any cooking section/store to measure food with) that has white powder all over it (Kalkwasser). Took a good 20 minutes to convince them what the white powder was for. NOT a fun morning at all. They still didn't seem convinced when they left and actually made a threat/(joke I hope) that they were going to contact my employer as they were walking out the door. Not once did any of them seem interested in looking around the yard for anything suspicious, it was all 3 grilling me, taking my ID, doing a background check, and one with his hands on his cuffs just waiting for the word. REALLY stressful, let me tell you!

Ace, if they bug you again.... just tell them that your Okie attorney will be contacting their supervisor to discuss a civil rights complaint...

Ace, I know just how you feel. I had a same similar thing happen to me only I ended up in jail... Also a fine... Long story and I was the one that called 911 about someone else.

Ok, Ace, tell me how much phosphate sponge I should put in my reactor? 1/2, more or less?

Ace, tank is looking great. It took a while to find you, wasnt sure of what site you bounced to. I stopped by the house a few days ago, no one was home...do you still live there? Anyway nice to see your set up and you will have to swing by sometime and check out my new tank, I plan on setting it up in a few weeks(in the wall). Keep in touch...
