Ace25's 75G Build Thread

On the coral above I did exactly what I wrote, put glue on the bottom of the coral and glued it right to the rock. Then you hope the coral grows/encrusts onto the rock before a turbo snail can knock it over. It takes a little more effort to knock over, only had a turbo do it once to a non encrusted frag, but it can happen. That coral is a fast grower and encrusted quickly.
 
So is there anything that you can put on the plug and then plunge it underwater to mount to the rock, or is this what you are saying you do?
 
Glue works fine on plugs as well. I usually use heavy duty wire cutters and cut the plug off most of the way so I don't need to find a deep hole in the rocks, then just put plenty of glue on the bottom of the plug and stick it. After about 60 seconds it will even stick on the side of a rock.
 
Thanks Ace, I hope I can get it to glue and stay long enough for the corals to spread and attach. I hate those plug stems, they are too long for egg create and too long for may holes where you might want to place them. I'm going to go to the local hobby shop and pick up a bigger bottle of the super glue gel. these 1/4 oz bottles from Home Depot and Lowe's just isn't enough.

Photos of my DT will be coming shortly. I just have to get them all renamed and sorted out to start a thread. I do have water in now and it is clearing. No matter how much I washed the sand it still had a sand storm. Salt also causes cloudy water when it is first introduced.

I used the commercial RO/DI tank from my LFS and just put everything in the tank and then filled it up.
 
Greg, i just took all of my SPS on plugs and glued them to the rock. I wanted to make sure it was happy where it was before I glued em down, but I am much happier with the stability and the appearance. (plus it freed up a lot of room in my tank... some of my frag plugs were good sized). The only ones I didn't remove from plugs were those that had encrusted on the plug like the Pavona and some monti frags.
 
What did you use for glue? I have some that have started encrusting on the live rock in my frag tank so I'll just try to stack them in the new DT. I've also got a few frags that have come loose from their plugs and I think I'll get some flat plugs, put then in containers and then add the loose frags and see if they will attache them selves. I've got a Ric, a Yuma, an Acan, and some others that either come loose of have split.

Sorry for the High Jack Ace. But you talking about frag attachment is a very interesting topic.

Just quick PAR test I did, very quick tests so these are definately ballpark figures.

Phoenix 14k SE 250w - PAR @ 1" below bulb=2000, PAR @ 14" below / @ surface of water=500

XM 10k SE 250w - PAR @ 1" below bulb=2900, PAR @ 14" below / @ surface of water=1000

very nice Ace......How old are the bulbs? What is that thingy on the right? Looking forward to getting some more in depth results from your Par readings.
