yep flomajo i remember you. you bought a 12x12x4.5 right? what system did that go on? and did you like it? complete honesty is appreciated :) good or bad

Holy crap that was expensive!!! First time shipping corals.. probably won't be doing much of that again. Box weighed 20lbs and I was trying to put as little water as possible in the bags.

FedEx Overnight by 10am = $183
FedEx Overnight by 3pm = $177
USPS Overnight by 3pm = $90.25

Cali to Florida SUCKS for shipping.

Obviously I didn't want to do all that work for nothing so I paid the extra $30 from the $60 you sent me for USPS overnight.

scootrnerd: I think that was the size. Hanging off the end of the sump on my 90g. Looking back, I should've included the light and pump with the order. Construction was solid and it's held up well so far. Bonded seems were definitely not for display, but then again it's a fuge. It's really just a stop-gap until I obtain a refugium sump.

Locals here know Ace's exceptional generosity well...sharing his experiences, knowledge, livestock, equipment, time & effort. I might have already given up on SPS months ago if it weren't for him. I'm inspired to follow his lead with giving/trading as much tank raised coral to as many hobbyists as possible. Keeps the hobby going and lessens the impact on our ocean's reefs.

Scootrnerd...here's an idea....maybe send me the light and an appropriate pump and I'll cover the $30 Ace spent? I'll be visiting him again soon.

Hey ace is ur paypal the same as ur email? Or I can mail u the extra $ that is aloooooot!
But still well worth it.would have cost 4-d timed that easy!

Thanks flomojo for the honest answer I am getting better at the seems as I go. I think u got 1 before I got a router
We do what we can with what we have :)

Sorry, don't have a PayPal account myself.. they banned me "for life" many years ago because I disputed a $50 charge from something I bought on Ebay and never received. I tried to get my $ back from PayPal but they said "tough luck, nothing we can do" so I did what I could do.. disputed the charges with my CC company.. which by doing so earns you a lifetime ban from PayPal.

Look at it this way.. just the "Tubbs Blue Zoas" which have probably 10 polyps on it goes for $15 PER POLYP at my LFS. So that is $150 just for that one frag of Tubbs Blue zoas.. that one frag pays for everything and you get another $200-$300 of additional corals on top of that. ;)

Now I understand why people really don't like to ship corals though.. always see that on RC .. corals for sale, will NOT ship. I always wondered if it really cost that much or that much work to do so... now I know.. yes, it is extremely expensive to ship corals, especially if your only buying 1 or 2. Shipping can cost as much as the corals.

I'm curious if anyone has shipped using the us postal flat rate it says if it fits in the box one rate up to 70 pounds. as a side note scootrnerds avatar is giving me the willys he looks identical to my best friend whom passed away a few months ago

Ya, believe me, I was staring at the "USPS flate rate" deal they had on their signs all over the office. Unfortunately the box I had was bigger than the boxes they use for that deal and I wasn't in the mood to unpack/hope I could repack it right then. If there is a next time I will definately look into that deal though..

Now I am just crossing my fingers everything goes according to plan and they all arive safe and sound. A couple may come off their plugs but a simple dot of superglue will fix that. Corals are all double bagged, some have 2 smaller bags inside a bigger bag. Best advice for removing the corals is just use a razor blade to slice the bags open to get the coral out.. or else your going to be swearing up and down at me if you try and unwrap the rubberbands. LOL.

im so jealous of scooter.... they have no no good sps in buffalo :(
