Acronyms

BTA - bubble tip anemone
RBTA - rose bubble tip anemone
GBTA - green bubble tip anemone
GSP - green star polyp
zoa/zoos - zoanthid
UK - United Kingdom (for Reefscape/CPD)
uk - unknown
IME - in my experience
recirc - recirculating as in protein skimmer
CL - closed loop
WTT - wanting to trade
 
Mg or mag - Magnesium
Alk - Alkalinity
Hypo - Hyposalinity

(loved the ruby murray by the way reefscape)

I would put the british armed forces acronym SPAM in but it would only upset people:)
 
Just for everyone's convenience, I usually always type out the entire word first, then use its acronym subsequently. It avoids confusion 99.9% of the time, assuming everyone who asks actually reads the post (of which I am guilty).

CF - Compact flourescent
 
I'm glad this thread exists - I was hoping for something like this.
However, pedantic sod that I am, I would not call most of these acronyms, because you don't pronounce them as a word. I would call them initialisms.

But what do I know?

okay im kdding about that but um...ive sat for an hour or more before wondering why everyone puts imo...and i didnt know hat it meant until just now! sighhh ima dork
 
NH4 is Ammonium, not ammonia. Small difference in spelling, big difference in toxicity.
