When I get my 600 it's gonna be acrylic. I agree with slvrcvc, the ways of maintanence on them has changed. They are easier to keep than older models. However, I have found that algae on acrylic tanks is harder to remove than the glass ones. I would go with glass any day of the week, but when weight is involved, acrylic is the best.

slvrcvc, yes, it is hard to scratch an acrylic tank, but the thing is that in a few years it starts to have little scrathces all over no matter how well you take care of it.

i would rather have acrylic if there were kids around. the glass would break or crack on impact with baseballs and tennis rackets always flying around the house.

acrylic cause whenever friends come over they play rough and some things might end up hitting the tank.

Anyways, this is a SUPER old thread, don't know how it reappeared and became so wierd.

But heres my take.
Acrylic is great because its light weight and easy to drill, especially in the case of installing a wet/dry. It supposed to be stronger, retain heat better and transmit light better, but scratches like a mofo (must be careful when scraping algae off).
Glass is heavier, but that really only makes a difference when you're lugging the thing around. Drillable, with the right tools, but i'd be a little hesitant.
I'd probably vote for glass (mainly because of the scratching).

ahem? the subject was glass or acrylic. If I was doing saltwater, I'd want an acrylic for the sand and live rock weight factor of course. I like glass because I've seen acrylic tanks and they seem to fog after time and if they scratch, the scratches can create distortion, like looking at one fish, but see three of them.......know what I mean?
Never mind. :o
