I bought a 4 inch tiger oscar for the 75g, to go along with a 4 inch female firemouth and 3 female swordtails. The firemouth didn't like the idea of sharing the tank and kept the oscar confined to the top of the tank. So I had to decide what to do and who to get rid of.
At the fish store I just decided to try a larger oscar, one that would be intimidating to the firemouth, so I got this beautiful 6 inch lutino. When I put him in the tank I carefully watched the dynamics of the tank change. The lutino quickly brought the tiger out of hiding and the firemouth would not mess with the pair at all. After a day or so, the firemouth even took to searching the tank for food with both oscars.
Every now and then, the firemouth would still try to go after the smaller tiger, but the lutino would quickly rush between them and stopped any aggression. It seemed as though I would have peace for a while until they grew up and required a larger tank.
10 days of peace, 10 days of watching this incredibly cool lutino oscar play babysitter to all other fish. But, for some reason, this lutino oscar decided to find 1 of only 2 very small openings in the tank and plunge to his death.
Now I'm back to where I started and I'm down one very awesome oscar.
