AC'S Oscar Club..........

If its a clean tear I wouldnt worry to much unless there is some weird growth around it. Oscars can have scuffles with each other which will result in torn fins they tend to heal pretty fast on there own. Pics would be very useful though. To bad this club wasnt around like 5yrs ago when I had oscars lol. Oh well wont be in this club for a long time.

Yeah....it's clean....nothing around the area of the tear or on the body, so that's what has me puzzled...I mean, I'm no expert. I'll definitely have those pics posted later on today.

So how come you don't have oscars anymore and why are you leaving??

I dont have oscars no more cuz the last three I had was several yrs ago one which dies from my Managua killing it the other two I gave to a friend. I dont got the tank space for any and wont anytime soon. I have never been a memeber of this club since its wasnt around back then at least dont think it was lol.

This is a pic of the tear or suspected infection. Is it a tear or like tail rot? If it's at all possible to tell from the 2 pix.

adamant, it was most likely the other oscar biting the tail fin and then a lil infection might have set in.

i wouldn't use any meds, it doesn't look to be severe enough to warrant the use of them, and if you don't have a hospital tank big enough to temporarily hold the oscar then you're going to spend a lot on meds to medicate that big tank, lol.

up your water change schedule as much as you can, daily if possible. that should help.

Betta.....I think I'll take ur advice......for how long do you think I shud do this water chg a day thing for? Cuz ur right about not having a hospital tank. What's ur opinion on that BigFish??

Also....if it is indeed fin rot....then could it have spread to the other fish in the tank (another oscar and two plecos) and therefore maybe I shud jus spend the money and treat the entire tank?? What do you all think??

unless the other fish are showing signs of fin rot i would not worry about treating the whole tank.

i would do daily water changes of about 50% for a week and see if the torn/ripped fin starts to heal and/or regenerate a lil tissue. mind you, the fin probably won't grow back to look exactly like it did before, but you do want to make sure that there is not further deterioration due to dirty water/dirty tank.
