Add a shrimp or Starfish?

My 24 gallon tank I am looking to get something new in there till my 90 gallon is up and running and stuck on what to get. Was thinking about a shrimp or starfish? Any suggestions as to what I should get? And what kind? Was thinking of a serpent starfish and a blood red cleaner shrimp? Any suggestions?

I'd try a shrimp - probably a skunk cleaner. Far more personality than any starfish and far easier to car for. Reef safe stars such as fromia or linkia extremely difficult to keep alive even in an established tank and are very sensitive to initial acclimation.

While no damsel, cleaner shrimp only require stable parameters and you'll love how they set up their own cleaning stations and give the fish a good scratch. They'll even attempt to "clean" your hand if you stick it in the tank.
