Well the good news is my tank has finally completed it's first cycle. So it's time to add more fish. I picked up 12 Neon Tetras today. I acclimated them to the temp and the water, and then added the fish only to the tank. The Zebra Danios won't stop chasing and nipping at them! Is this normal when ever you add new fish?

You might have gone overboard a bit there Tooldud. Even though Neons are pretty small and your tank is good sized you would have been better off getting 6 now and then 6 more when your tank finished its mini-cycle. Whenever you add new fish to a tank it takes time for the bacteria to increase in numbers to handle the bigger load. Usually 7 to 10 days does the trick. And no, it doesn't surprise me that your zebra's are chasing your Neon's.

I always love finding things out after the fact  . My LFS told me no problem. I will keep a careful eye on the the tank #'s and and do the water changes as needed. Maybe I will get luck and get through it ok.

The natives have settled done a bit after the arrival of the new comers.

I'm really new to everything, but the guy at the store told me don't put neon tetras in with zebra danios. The danios will just attack them constatantly. He also said other tetras like the black skirt tetras can be mixed with zebra danios. I'm not sure how accurate that info is, but that's what I was told. Hope it helps!

it never hurts to quiz the people on a board like this to find out if what you plan to do is a good idea!! I would just test your water daily to make sure that all is well!

Tooldud, the fact that neons don't put a big strain on your biological filter should work in your favor. Your numbers will rise some but hopefully not to the point that it will kill your fish especially if your willing to do any needed water changes to head things off. I hope I didn't panic you or anything, just wanted to let you know to keep an eye on things for a while.
