Hi guys its me and another one of my killer newbie questions. ok i have finaly finished the setup and have added the salt. i have my test kits ready to go. when should i start testing??

Depends on the ammonia source. Straight ammonia--immediately, so you know how much ammonia you're adding. Shrimp--wait a day or two.

ive used Prodac's : ammonia control, which is a biological activator. and live rock will be coming in 1-2days time.

But what's the source of the ammonia? Is the rock uncured? If so, you can start testing after the rock goes in.

Live rock is what you need to get the cycle going so until you have some its a tub of water.

hmmm. ok, i made a mistake i should have waited for the LR to come :thud: . i will have the LR in about 9 hours. hope that in time to catch that bacteria i chucked in there.

when i tested for ammonia about a day after i filled it, i got a reading of 0.5 . that was before i put in the bacteria.

The l.r. has the bacteria already I wouldn't bother to add anything else. You might want to keep an eye on your ammonia level to if there isn't enough stuff on your l.r. to rot you may not have enough stress on the tank to cycle.
