Adding iodine for shrimp

Thanks Tomm, I almost fogot that I was going on the trip. Yikes! I will definatley look into getting some when I am down there. My shrimp will be so happy.

Anything else for shrimp in a freshwater planted tank? So far the guys seem pretty happy eating alage and left over food (and some poop too I think).

Just make sure they have some where to hide when they molt. Its when they're most vulnerable so they'll want to be out of sight for a day or two.

They should be fine eating the leftovers although mine are little food thieves. they steal the shrimp pellets as soon as they hit the floor and carry them off to devour them.

FWIU they eat the undigested food in the fish poop. Still nasty.

 Yup! And it irritates me to no end!:D That's for the cories, curse you!

what about actual iodine that some people use for wounds?

Happychem, help us out here, I know from other treads that it is iodide that is in table salt not Iodine, how about the stuff in sea salt that we are thinking of adding, Iodide or iodine, and could medical iodine work I'm just curious, I don't plan to try.

The stuff in sea salt is iodide, basically the same stuff added to table salt. Historically the reason for the addition to table salt was people inland growing goiters. People living on the coast got plenty of iodide from seafood.

Although whether the iodine would be metabolized in a similar manner as iodide, I don't know. I doubt it, but I don't know for sure what happens inside the body of a shrimp.

Bottom line is that I don't think you would want to add the antiseptic form to your tanks.

Thanks Happychem, I kind of figured that but prefer to never assume without some facts. Your input is always aprreciated.
