Can anyone tell me if it is safe to add lead to driftwood to help hold it down? I have a large piece of wood that I am trying to sink. I read somewhere that people have drilled holes in there wood and filled it full of lead. I want to try this but am afraid that it would be toxic to the fish. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

No lead.....use gravel or glass marbles...or use stainless steel screws to attach a piece of slate to it...

The lead is toxic and will leech into the water. Do what Rbish said. Also, avoid copper or brass if you plan to have inverts or catfish of any kind.

Go to a home improvement center and buy a piece of slate, drill a small hole with a carbide bit (I use a cordless drill and a few drops of water on the bit) and a stainless steel screw.
Sounds much harder then it really is.
