I was told by a lfs that if you add all your live rock in at the same time everything will spike and eveything on the rock will die is this true because it is cheeper to buy a box load than one pice at a time

Is this on a new tank?? If the tank is alreay running, they i would not suggest putting in more than 3 or so lbs of live rock at a tim, else a mini-cycle will occur...

Its always better if you can get all the live rock togther in one go...Yes, you "may" get a spike, depends on how cured the rock is. Yes, some of the critters will die off, but once the tank stabalizes, they will come back...

Yes the tank is new was cleaned out and refilled with salt water on the 21-03-08 and on the 28-03-08 a pice of coral from my 2ft and 2 new largeish pices of live rock were added no substraite yet

You can always monitor the levels really well and just be prepared to do lots of water changes to keep the params where they need to be. That way, you could add it all at once but it would require lots of diligence on your part.

Thank you sounds like the lfs was basicly right and I don't have alot of time at the moment to do allot of water changes ect so I might just take it slowly and most of the shops around here are bit low on live rock and corels at the moment because there suppliers have not been out lately due to alot of bad weather and the stuff they do have dose not have much growth on it.
