Hi,

When I was young I remember my mom adding a small amount of salt to our freshwater tank every month, or after water changes. She said something about it helping them build a stress coat or slime coat or something...I can't recall how much salt she used though, it was something around 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons I believe, but I don't want to experiment and overdo it.

If It helps, here's my current stock

2 Creamcicle Mollies
2 Red Velvet Swords
2 Hatchet Fish
2 Harlequin Rasboras
2 Danios
2 Bosami Rainbows
2 Opaline Gouramis (gorgeous fish by the way)
2 Japanese Algae Eaters
3 Rummynoses
1 Black Sword

I wouldn't worry about adding salt. The chemistry of the water will never be the same, and your fish don't need it. The slime coat is renewed with water changes, when you use water conditioners.

Oh ok, thank you!

None.

your tank looks a little overstocked for 27g

i only add salt if i treating ich.
Same here.:) A lot of meds destroy your biological filtration. I prefer being safe than to add unnecessary stress to the fish using medicines.
