Are additive's a must in a reef tank? I am looking into starting a 29 gallon reef tank, and would like to know how to feed corals/inverts. Are there any good post on here that would lead me in the right direction? I am new to corals so any info will help.

I know that all corals need calcium. But I also have read that they need iodine and other trace elements. Does this stuff accure naturally in the tank? Please let me know.

Thanks

Using a good salt can provide adequate trace elements. I use Reef crystals and never dose my tank and my parameters are good. If you're going to dose with something make sure you have a test kit for it so as not to overdose.

The only thing I dose is a part I and part II buffer and magnesium. But additives are not necessary as long as you are willing to perform good tank maintenance. As CPD said you shouldn't have to dose anything.

The reason I dose magnesium is becuase my mangrove trees are pulling out of my water faster than I can do water changes so this has been a recent addition. But the mangroves are so good at pulling the other nutrients out of my system that they are staying for as long as they want to survive.
