ADF Question

umm...

I was wondering if anyone could tell me why my female ADF is red and my male is silvery. I was thinking that might it have somthing to do with the spiecies or maybe just the color. In any case I was also wondering if trying to breed them for color has crossed anyone elses mind. If my fogs' colors are passed on to the next generation I was thinking of breeding for color and am hoping to get others into the idea so there would be more colors available and a broader gene pool to play with.

Welcome to the forum Lavena. In the future, you may want to start your own topic thread in the Beginners/General Freshwater section to address specific questions.

To my knowledge, frogs are not bred for their coloring. There is likely a reason behind this.

Now to you specificially. I've never seen a healthy "red" frog. Red usually indicates an illness of some sort (like scepticemia or other bacterial infection). Do you have a picture? If you do, start your own thread like I mentioned and I'll try to answer it. As for breeding these frogs, it is not a task for beginners. The babies are very difficult to feed, requiring live mircocultures at birth, progressing to slightly larger cultures as they age. There is a high mortality rate. It is not something I recommend; as with bettas, there really are enough frogs out there! If it happens, it happens. But I don't know if I'd try to do it for the end result of production.
