Advice for new tank - please

Biowheel - Bigger is Better AND LOUDER!!

Just wanted to let you know that if you get a large Biowheel, it will be loud. Maybe not plane flying over your house loud, but it will sound like you left a faucet on all the time. I had to get a different filter for the tank in my bedroom. The Penguin biowheel kept me up for a week before I finally gave up on it. Just an FYI, its a great filter, but a bit noisier than some of the other options. -imo, get more filtration than you need, it just makes the tank care that much easier.

I'd get a Jaeger for the heater. Those things are awesome!!!

Plus theyw ere the first company to start making heaters methought.

Yes, the Penquins are a bit noisy, but it's like a babbling brook type of noisy. Was noticeble at first, but it's now just background noise; don't really notice it...

The bio-wheels are a bit noisy, but if the water level is kept high enough, it muffles the sound a bit more. We have a 150 on our 10 gallon and a 200 on our 55 in addition to a Whisper 60 on the 66 gallon. On the 10 gallon, I wrapped some filter bag around the bottom of the output to slow the current since our Betta didn't like the really fast moving current. Still water and great filter, but less current and noise. If the filter is in a bedroom where someone is trying to sleep and they don't like any noise, it could be annoying. Ours are in our dining room, so no one cares.
