Hi,

I'm looking for some advice, I have a large Leopard Plec .. he's a big boy (around 30 cm) I've had him for around 8 years.

I've never had any trouble with him until the last few months, he's producing long transparent. membrane like poop which he has never done before. It seems like it's coming out of him continually I don't think it's normal poop just a membrane like substance that normally contains the regular poo.

I thought it might cure it's self but this has been going on for two months now, every day i have to take loads of of it out of the tank so i think there is something is wrong with him. He still seems to eat normally ... I've always fed him on large plec wafers which he eats around four to five a day.

There are two large pieces of bog wood in the tank which he chews on regally .. I've take some pictures in the hope that someone can identify whats wrong with him/her ...

As you can see from the photos sometimes the membrane is over a meter long and gets wrapped around much of the tank decorations... heres a picture of the whole tank for scale:-

The Tank is 200L running a Fluval G6 filter, I do a 50L water change every two weeks ...

I image it's some sort of gut infection but not sure how to proceed with treating him, should i put him in a quarantine tank to treat him ?, and what should i treat him/her with ?

None of the other fish seem to be suffering with this condition as far as i can tell ...

Any help of advice greatly welcomed ...

Cheers

What are you water parameters. Also at 50L every 2 weeks, this maybe too little.
What does he eat.

My first action with internal issues is garlic, it's safe and easy. Soak some of his food in garlic/juice. Since it's been a few month this may not be enough but it is a start. Please provide answers to the questions asked by other so we can further help you.

This is a Pterygoplichthys. A diet of wafers is too rich in protein. You need to feed him a varied diet, zucchini, broccoli, peas, squash, etc. He really needs fibers.

What does he eat.

Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitarate = 30

He's been fed Tetra Pleco Wafers all his life ... he now eats about 5 of the every day ..

Garlic Juice .... never head of that or as a treatment but it sounds like good advice, I'll go shopping and get some broccoli and squash and see if i can get some garlic juice to soak it in.

Done ... please see above posts.

Wafers are too rich in protein, it is important to keep balance in protein level.
This is an essential nutrient that enables the body to recover. Low levels of protein can lead to fluid retention and to a reduction of the body's ability to fight off infections.
Creative Proteomics is programming a full range of services to support various proteome-related researches from identification of single proteins to large-scale proteomic studies.

I went and got some squash and broccoli as suggested and tried feeding him some small chunks but so far he's not eaten any of it ... he's still eating the wafers though ...
