hello, I just bought a 90 gallon perfecto tank, basic design, straight rectangle was wondering if I should go with 2 aquaclear 500's, or 2 Marineland Emperor 280's? I plan on a Lake Malawi cichlid setup, rocky, sandy gravel bottom. Which choice is the better? or if you know something better I am all ears.

EDIT: I am aware that both my filter options may be wrong, Big Als does not tell me what the 280 is capable of, so if I am way off in the power of filter, please excuse me.

If your looking for an easy to use filter go with an Aquaclear, they are pretty good too, I currently use them. Emperor filters are great too (especially with the bio-wheels feature), but they can be a pain in the butt for changing media.

With Aquaclears you can just put your media in the filter media bag and then tie the filter media bag and then put it in the filter basket.

i like aquaclears they seem to last longer.
emperors are way easier to clean out though, you just take out the cartridges and slip in some new ones.

2 Marineland Emperor 280's
Definitely, I have two of these on my 120g and they are "quiet" and keep my system nice and clean.

The eheim cannister 2217 or filstar xp3 would be my choice. I have the eheim 2215 on a 66g rectangular tank. I like the fact that you can leave the hoses in place and just walk away with the canister to clean it. There are shut off valves for the hoses. NO fuss.
A canister is always best on a large aquarium. You can add a hang on back filter later if you feel you want extra filtering.

you got anything else on there? i used to run 1 emperor 400 on my 40 gallon. 2 280s is basically a 400.
