Advice...On My 29 Gallon Tanky

i brought back my green spotted puffer cuz people on here said it needed to be in bracksh than salt. and 2 guys at different pet stores said they have always done fine in freshwater. now i just read that figure eight puffers can live their lives in only freshwater. any feedback?

Figures Eights need brackish water just like the Green Spotted Puffers.

Puffers do well in species only tanks. If you really want puffers, pick which tank you want them in, the 15 or 29 and then you will have to decide what kind of fish you want in the other tank. You could put 3 dwarf puffers in the 15, which I think would work out best and be a lot less stressful than trying to put tankmates with them.

Keeping a brackish tank really isn't that difficult and you could put one F8 in the 15 if you really want one.

this is the rainbow shark i have. him and the albino are not getting a long. i just added 3 puffers as well. they are all staying together. im thinking i need to bring the sharks back to petsmart because they are 2 aggressive. my crayfish and cories get along. my crays have established themselves real good in their spots. i also added 2 Schwartz's Corys to go with my other cory. if i bring back the rainbow sharks will petsmart flush them?

What puffers did you add? But these sharks are indeed belligerent. You do not expect them to get along in one tank which is why we keep usually only one per tank, not 2 or more. These are not schooling fish either. It's only a matter of time before crayfish begin to ambush the cories.

one of my cories lives in the same cave as my crayfish...which i find weird. when i set up my new 29 then the crayfish will be seperate from the bottom fish. right now the only mean thing is infact the rainbow sharks.lol. i added 3 pea puffers by the way.

Why not keep the puffers in a species only tank in the 15 gallon?

I think you're asking for trouble with your stocking and you should listen to the suggestions of the people on here.

i am listening to suggestions. thats why i posted. but the fact of the matter is i already have the fish so its not like i can change that. no one has said....in tank A put blah blah blah. tank b..blah blah.

so if someone would break that down that would be helpful. also i NEED TO separate my 2 rainbows. they are the only things fighting at this moment. which they are hardly doing now that i have added an abundance of plants

If I were you, put the gourami and cory in the 29g. Add more cories and some rasboras. You are left with a choice of either the puffers or the crayfish. No, you can't have both in the same tank. Sorry.

I repeated my suggestion. The point is you shouldn't have bought the puffers first. Puffers are far too troublesome without a tank to spare, not to mention the crayfish.

The only solution is give away both. Do not keep one at all. You do not have the proper tankmates and setup to keep one or both. It's only a matter of time before they resort to harassing other fish. This fish can reach a potential 5-6 inches max.

dwarf puffers can live in community tanks you just have to watch them. I have mine in a community tank and it does not bother any of the other fish. My red tail shark seems to bother the tiger barbs but thats it. I did have an incident of the DP fighting with the shark but that lasted a day and now the DP has established its dominance they have stopped fighting and the DP actually saves the tiger barbs from the red tail shark by scaring him to back him down. (Not actually fighting but swimming close). I would avoid having two DPs in one tank unless you know that its actually one male and one female but even then I would be worried. With a female in the tank the male might be more aggressive. The key is to try and have the decor break the line of sight. If you want to keep more than one DP keep them in the 15. Make sure not to use a net for any puffer as they may suck in air and die because they cannot release it. Use a cup or something that keeps them in the water for a long period of time. I have trained my DP to get distracted by the net by placing snails on the net all the time. Now every time I place a net in the tank he goes and inspects it and then I can scoop him up. BTW males usually have wrinkles around their eyes and a strip on their belly. Females are plumper and are usually brighter?

thanks guys. i think ill bring back the rainbows then. does petsmart kill fish if i bring them back? if so then maybe ill give them to my other fish store.
