Advice on wiring a pc fan

Im looking at buying a small pc fan to fit to my tank hood and would like to know how to wire it and what kit other then the fan I need to plug it into the mains, Any help greatly appreciated
 
Most small PC fans run on 12V, DC power, so you'll need a 12V power supply (RadioShack or some such place). Also - know that these fans make noise and that it's inversely proportional to their size (120mm to 150mm fans are very quiet, 80mm fans are a bit noisey, smaller ones are even noisier).
 
depending on what fan you buy, will depend on what colour wire's there is one the fan. Its usually something like a black and white, or a red and black and then another colour...the other colour is usually what is used when connected to a persoanl computer and does not need to be used. You will simply have a positive and negative wire's on the adapter, what you then do is match the wires onto the fan...If you pic the wire which controls the speed as used by a computer, nothing will happen and the fan will not spin...thats about as simple as it gets..

Wiring DC computer fans is in fact that easy. If you get the wires backwards, the fan will simply spin the opposite direction. If you have an old cell phone charger laying around, many of them are suitable for powering 1 or more DC computer fans (check the milliamp rating on the power supply and the fan(s)).
 
Here you go mate...

Basically, blacks and reds are joined together that come off the fans themselves via two lengths of wires that are joined by connection blocks...then into a connection block with the two wires on the power supply unit...
