I want to buy a bottom feeder to help keep my angelfish tank clean, but i do not know any local breeders, and i was wondering if specialty fish stores are just as good. Like a tropical fish store?

It all matters what kind of bottom feeder you are looking for. You could do almost any catfish they would have at a fish store for eating up scraps. As long as you stay away from Pleco's. If you want something that will clean up scraps and keep your tank free of algae then you would want a pleco. You just gotta research first because most pleco's they sell at stores will grow way to large for your tank. Most bristlenose pleco's are suggested for peoples smaller tanks to clean up algae as they don't get huge. But good luck finding them at fish stores.

thats true, but dont a lot of the fish petstores get die?

A lot of fish from pet stores do die, but the chain stores generally have a 15 day guarantee on them as well. Provided your water parameters are acceptable, you're unlikely to have a huge problem.

That being said, it's always best to support captive/home breeders, especially since you'll likely get much higher quality stock from the sellers here. I've bought around half my fish online, and have not had any problems with keeping them alive.

Also, in my experience, angelfish leave cories alone for the most part.

the fish that are sold in the stores are shipped in from somewhere before they get to the store, so i wouldn't worry about shipping fears. and the fish you would get from members on here are going to be way healthier and nicer looking than anything in a store, IMO.

i used to be 'scared' of having fish shipped in, but then i took the plunge and ordered one from two provinces away. go ahead, take the plunge.

as for what bottom feeder to get, cories or a bristlenose pleco would be fine. one thing i would do though is get a bigger tank for the angels. they are most likely 'touchy' due to not having enough space. time for a 55 gallon, me thinks!
