ADVISE?pretty and energetic fish for 30g

I have just upgraded my tank from a 10g to a 30g over Christmas. I was a horrible newbie when i started out 2 years ago. I didn't get good information from my local petsmart and subsequently had "New Tank Syndrome" and lost about 15 fish over 3 weeks! I finally decided to buy the cheapest fish I could to not mourn the loss of my beauties (I want a real turd back then)
Anywho, My red eyed tetras and high finned tetras lived on! I still have 2 red eyes and 1 high fin along with a "sucker fish" (sorry, I don't remember the accurate name . The fish are doing great in the new tank, but I am sure that they will be reaching the end of teir life cycle soon which leaves me researching what to put in their place.

I need to know from those of you with experience what kind of fish will be happy in a 30g tank and also (I know this sounds shallow) but after 2 years with dull tetras, I would like some fish with energy and color.

Any advise??? I will try to post a pic of my new tank tomorrow.

you know you need to 'cycle' your tank....right? as for the wittle fish...zebra danios?

Try some platys...Cheap, colourful and very active. Plus they are hardy which is nice.. A few pics of my goof ball platys...

Platies are a good idea. Only get all females, all males or two females and one male. They will breed and you will have more platties than you know what to do with. For an energetic fish I am thinking the hyperactive zebra danio, if u want more color, get glowfish. They are bright glowing pink zebra danios.

Yes, I do know now about cycling my tank I try to be as consciencious as possible in regards to all of my animals, including my little fish

I am wanting to have several varieties of fish in the tank. Would zebra danios and glowfish cohabitate? I'll do some more research......

If I had a spare 30g tank, I'd put in a few Firemouths or a couple Jack Dempseys... or both.

My neons tend to just hover in place most of the time. The guppy/swordtail tank is more fun to watch, but after a while they'll make you dizzy.

Just wanted to show you guys my new tank, so I could get any ideas or suggestions for new fish....sorry I'm so fish ignorant...I've got the water down, I just don't have the fish species knowledge yet

I like Jak Dempseys, but I do not think they would be a good choice for color or activity. They eat anything you throw in the tank, I guess that is activity. If you were going to go aggresive, African Cichlids are very colorful and the variety is almost endless.

Community.... Go for the schooling fish. Danios, Rummynose Tetras. Something like that. I heard that adding aquarium salt helps with color as well. Never tried that tho.

For a 30 gallon you could have a couple of angels...which come in many verieties of colors...choose your favorite...mine are the koi/marbles. Make sure they're a pair though...watch in the lfs for two that hang out together, before picking the ones you want if you decide on angels...and get them small and add them to the tank LAST.

A nice school of some type of mid sized tetra and a pair of german blue rams...VERY colorful little dwarf cichlid !

Here's a pic of my tank which is setup similar to this description....you can see my german blues in the middle front and a couple of the prestella tetras I have in there. I picked the prestellas because the have a nice bright yellow/black slash on thier dorsals...and nice red tails..but thier coloring doesn't clash or take away from the angels or rams....the angels are still small, about half dollar size...but when they reach thier size they are going to really highlight this tank ! (see, they're so small you can't see them in there...lol )

The plants also add alot of color and interest to this tank...I also am cosidering getting a larger piece of driftwood in here..when I find JUST the right piece....lol...

I also have 2 otocinclus in this tank and will soon be adding a striped kuhlii loach as well. He's in quarenteen at the moment...just picked him/her up today.
