Hello everyone,
I would like to hear your opinion whether it would be aesthetically pleasing to have a school of black neon tetras and a school of harlequin rasboras in one tank. I know that the tetras occupy the mid- bottom level of the tank and the harlequins the mid- top section. But would both schools mix together well in terms of being pleasing to the eye? I was planning on having two gbrs, panda cories, and black neon tetras in a 20 g high. SO should i just expand the school of black neons (i have 7) or get harlequins as well ?

personally i think having one schooling fish yet more of them looks better then 2 smaller groups.

Respectfully disagree. :)
I like the idea, although keep an eye on your stocking level.
They are similar in size and behaviour, but contrasting shape and colour.
I doubt you'll see much difference in terms of what part of the tank they occupy.

Hi
IME I find that Black neons don't school as well as harlies nor do they stay at a particular level. Much depends on the size of the group
as well as tank mates . I keep 25 with 30 tiger barbs .IMO a larger group of a single species looks best and also creates fewer problems.
with compatibility . Good luck with whatever you decide gary

In a 20 gal I strongly agree. In a 200 gal less so. In a 2000 gal you're nuts! We just brought in some Veiltailed Penguin Tetras that look similar to the Black Neons, but as far as schooling they made a baitball with 100 of them in a group the size of a cataloupe! It was the best example of schooling I've ever seen in that small of an aquarium.
