Is it common for people to keep african cichlids in brackish water? Has anyone ever heard of this "recipie" for brackish water:

Reclos Recipe http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/aquainfo/salts.html

MgSO4 NaCHO3 NaCL KCI
teaspoons 1.58 3.03 12.00 3.60
grams/100L 6.32 12.12 48.00 14.40
oz/100L 0.23 0.43 1.71 0.51

grams/530L 33.50 64.24 254.40 76.32
oz/530L 1.20 2.29 9.09 2.73

1/4 8 16 64 19
1/3 11 21 84 25
1/2 17 32 127 38

MgSO4 = Epsom Salt; NaCHO3 = Baking Soda; NaCl = Pure canning salt; KCl = No Salt
* The purest potassium supplement we've found is the "No Salt."
Other fake salts have too many other ingredients.

Any comments on this?

Welcome to Aquaria Central! You will find tons of info here. I keep a few Africans in brackish. I don't know about the salt you are referring to but I along with many here use Instant Ocean or the like as a brackish salt. The Africans I have in brackish are 2 Altolamprologus compressiceps and 2 Neolamprologus brichardi, and I used to have a Labidiochromis and a C borleyi. Anyway, hope this helps and again Welcome!
