The African Crimson Sky Mahseer, also called the African Rainbow Mahseer, is not a true mahseer. Due to its physical characteristics and similar habitat of East African freshwater environments, they are often referred to as such, even though they are in a different family altogether. This particular color variant, the Crimson Sky, has a bright red tail and sky-blue dorsal fins. These active and social fish exhibit schooling behaviors, and thus should be kept in groups of 6-8 individuals to promote schooling habits. While typically growing to be between 4-6" in length, these Crimson Sky Mahseers can be selectively grown to be larger.

In optimal conditions, these false-mahseers can live between 5-10 years in captivity. Some potential tank mates when placed in good condition include other barbs, tetras, cory cats, and small cichlids.
