I had an African Knifefish, but he has disappeared from the tank. He must have jumped out during the night. There is only one opening, where the filter is. The tank is in my room, so we have isolated the search to said room, but he is absolutely nowhere to be found. He's too big to have been eaten. I fear that I will get a nice dirty lake smell in my room if I don't find him soon. Any help on this matter would be appreciated; I have literally searched everywhere, even in the lamp.

Did you check your WHOLE FILTER??? Disassemble, and everything? he could have somehow gotton inside.

Do you have any pets that might take a tasty fish off of the floor?

And this may seem a bit asinine, but are you absolutely sure that it is not still in the tank somewhere? I only see mine every few days. (Which has made me want to buy another one so I can name one "The Ghost" and the other "The Darkness". Cheesy perhaps, but appealing to me)

How big is this guy? When he jumps out, he doesn't just sit there. Expect him to flip around like crazy. So look 20 feet within your tank. Check the vents if he would fit in there. A flashlight might be good too.

I discovered that if you go behind the stand, there is a small area above the floor, but I could only stick my arm in. I'm wondering how I might move it when it weighs 350 pounds.

I wouldn't recommend trying to move your tank with all that water in it... Just my opinion! Are there any logs he can get into and hide for while, when I first got my bgk, he didn't come out for a long time!!!

Never move your tank when it has even a small amount of water. It is designed to have the weight of the water spead evenly across the base. If you pick it up on the left, then there is several times more weight resting on the right side. Plus, its a lot heavier than you would think. A gallon is 8 pounds or so. And if you try and move it, the water will wave from side to side making it impossible to keep steady.

How big of a fish are you looking for anyway?

look every where!! my friend had a banboo shrimp with other fish in a 28 gallon tank. One day he found his shrimp under a rug in his pantry.
...go figger

what a nightmare

that sounds terrible. i know that happened to me a lot when i was a kid and had tanks then. we lost a few irridescent sharks and some good size plecos that way (if he did make it out).
it sounds like you will find him back where you can't see behind the tank. not sure how the heck to get back there! bend a metal coat hanger maybe and 'feel' around?

good luck
