the rope fish isn't an eel, nor is it related in any way to eels. a member of one of the oldest order of fishes (polypteroid), it has evolved in it's natural habitat to be long and slender to move in and out of the reeds in lives it.
and they also prefer water that is on the slightly acidic side of things, not brackish water.
