what is the process of africans holding fry. how long? what should my temp be? can i have an auratus and a red zebra (both holding fry) together in the same qt tank? thanks

I'm not sure what everyone else has done, but as for me as soon as i found out that they were holding, i moved my 2 female greshakei to a fry tank...eventually the females both released the grown fry and soon after i put her back in the with the rest of the mbunas. the fry grew fine they're almost 2 months old now and are being given away and moved into a bigger tank.

Being quite new to africans, I`m struggling with a female lab who held for ages until I eventually intervened, but she is so wasted I don't know if she is going to survive.
It seems that some inexperienced mothers will hold for longer than is nesc. and in doing so risk their own health. I don`t have enough experience to advise you, but I was very suprised by that individual's behavior.
Whatever you do, keep an eye on the mother's health, especially if it's not bred before.

All other females so far, I`ve stripped at around 3 weeks and they have been absolutely fine when returned to the main tank.
