africans in a 10g tank

Hey all I was wondering if there are any african cichlids that can live in a 10g tank besides shell dwellers, or kribensis. I want something colorful that wuill be happy in a 10g

What do you mean by colorful?

Besides shellies (kribs actually aren't that greatly suited for a 10g in most cases), the only african that would be comfortable in a 10g would be a sole J. trascriptus.

i mean like bright yellows or blues or sometjhing

No in a 10gal. Min for anything like that is really 38gal.

Some yellow L. ocellatus would be your best bet. Any other type of shellie too... you could probebly get a pair or 1 male + 2 females. Other than that- no!

Thats a general rule granted you have a large tank. Also, thats being very generous. You can easily keep 20 cichlids in a 90 gallon tank, double what that "rule" states. Its hard to follow those kind of guidelines because there are exceptions in every case. In this case, its Malawis need a MINIMUM 30 gallon tank, and thats really even too small. And from then on you could say 1 fish per 5 gallons or so, depending on the species and aggression levels.

You shouldnt keep a two-inch fish in a 10 gallon, its not fair (depending on the type of fish though. Is it a swiming fish or one that stays in a small territory its whole life?). Also, there is no Malawi that stays under 3 inches. So, Tang shellies is the way to go if you want an african in there.
