africans with americans?

I kept Blue Acaras and 2 Zebras, before. The Zebras acted very cichlid like, dug and defended and the Blue Acaras successfully bred a couple of times. There were 2 Firemouths, a plec, 3-4 cories, various tetras, none over 4" (except the plec) in a 55gal. I there were two other africans in there also, looked psuedo like, I want to say yellow labs but I don't think so. The Zebra did kill one off my Bleedign heart tetras.

I can guarantee you that a Dovii/Boulengerochromis microlepis tank would not work even though the two are compatible in size, temperament, and water conditions, because the two will not understand behavioral signals given by each other.

On the other hand, you will hardly ever find Tilapia buttikoferi kept with other west Africans. Instead they will always be kept with Central American species.
