Aggresive Dwarf Gourami

Yeah my tank is 24 inches tall by 20 wide by 18 deep. I was thinking about a few hatchets myself, but the killifish are doing well as a top layer fish. Definitely looking into the calico or albino bristlenose as soon as my tank starts growing some algae.

You don't need to wait for algae, just buy em some fresh veggies and Algae Wafers. Also, Plecos aren't really algae cleaning machines, they poop a lot as well, so don't just get em for Algae control. Get em cause their awesome.

My blue gourami went after my dwarf gourami when I first introduced him to my 75 gallon tank, so I removed the blue gourami and placed him in a plastic container for 5 minutes before returning him to the tank. Now both gouramis get along just fine.

I was thinking of doing this as well. Well, with a bucket and a power filter for a few hours.

When I added Harlequin Rasboras to my Betta tank and he flared and chased at them I tapped the glass to scare him every time he would flare, or chase and he quickly learned not to chase them. He's been with them for over a month now and no problems there.

I have six gouramis in a 45 gal. tank. I admit that many on this forum discouraged this and advised me to limit the gourami number to one. I have two dwarf gourami and four flame red gouramis. I assume all six are male and all six are juvies. The dwarfs are near their reputed adult size of 2.5 inches. The four flames are about an inch and a half and will grow to three inches.

This is a new tank and these fish share it with four corys, six neons, and eight fancy guppies.

One of the dwarfs has decided he is the dominant fish. He sometimes will chase one of the others but Ive not seen any nipping or real aggression.

If you add another GBR he'll probably chase both... but at least it will spread the aggression and give one a chance to rest at a time.

True, I assume adding a female Dwarf wouldn't help?

I'm going to try the "Time Out" method, see if he learns his lesson.

I was going to give the Gourami a Time out today, but after filling a bucket with tank water and trying to scoop him out, he swam away and disappeared. I had to leave, but 30 minutes later my sister called me to tell me he got himself stuck behind my moss wall. :22_yikes:

This is what he looks like after I got him out eight hours later:

Looks bad, but I think it's just missing scales. He swims fine, ate some sinking pellets, and picks at the algae wafers like usual. He also continued following The German Blue Ram. But he hasn't chased him. He can't chase him, because the GBR doesn't swim away now, he just backs up.

I added 2 more GBR todays (pics tomorrow in new thread). Seems to have worked.

I took out the heater, my plan to hide it didn't work. I'll figure it out later.

Nice looking tank, Glad everything worked out. Now hopefully your rams will pair off, my pair is definitely the coolest thing to watch in my tank.

Thanks. From the few minutes I observed them (had to turn off the lights to help the newbies get acclimated) The Dwarf still wanted to follow them, but they didn't "run" away, so he just sort of got in their face and stared. Looks like the Rams have confidence now. Or maybe the experience the Dwarf went through chilled him out a bit.
