Hi I purchased two loisellei's from Jeff Rapps bout 2 weeks ago and they both looked great only problem now is as time passes by the male picks on the female more and more I currently have him in a net cuz he was gettin worse and worse. They are bout bout 3inches live in a 60gal with a L-001. In bout 2 months time I should have a bigger aquarium for these 2 but was wondering if adding more hiding place would help out or should I just use a divider for now? Was gonna buy one at my job but we dont carry them (Walmart doesnt carry everything lol). I dont want my female all beat up and dont want to leave my male confined in a net wish he would mellow out but as soon as she tries to get near him he gets nippy even displays his mouth and thrashes his body against hers like my managua did to my oscars years back. The water parameters are good I can retest later today if its needed I tested 2 days ago and the ammonia was at 0.25ppm Nitrite was at 0ppm Nitrate was at 10ppm and PH is 7.6 I use the API Freshwater Master Test Kit. So yeah any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If the ammonia is at .25 then water quality is not good. If the tank is cycled then ammonia and nitrite should always be at 0. What is your maintenance schedule like?

Adding some new decorations might help, but if it doesn't, then be prepared to add a divider.

I did a 50% water change on..... Tuesday the tank was overstocked with my plecos which have since been removed. I know Ill be doing another water change prob tomorrow. My maintenance on the tank in the past has been very laxed in other words been lazy but ive realized even with a big water change if done right is neither hard nor time consuming in which I should probably do it right now while im still awake.

Start buy adding some more cover like pieces of slate, driftwood, flower pots, fake or live plants. The next step if that doesn't work would be a divider. You can get a light diffuser from Lowe's or Home Depot. It's in the section with the drop ceiling supplies. Just cut it to fit your tank.

Ok what is a light diffuser??? Ok a trip to my local PetsMart looks in order for those extra cover n plants. I yi yi why cant they just get along would be so much easier. Welll ill try that hope it works. Thanks Vicious and severum mama

oh ok ive seen those lol Ill have to go look for it if they still dont get along down the road. Thanks vicious

Well if it doesn't work out you can always send the male Loisellei my way. ;)

LOL oh your so funny lol trust me if you lived closer ide prob let you borrow him but not keep him. I believe i found a used 135gal for cheap close by just need to double check. I know managuense love to dig or mine did do these dig alot too???

Oh yeah, they LOVE to dig. Mine builds what I like to call a "Ski Slope" on the side of his tank. Sometimes he'll make one 12"+ high in a day. But he doesn't seem to do that now that he has a girl friend. I think he might have been bored, lol.
