Anybody have their neons attack each other? I thought they were supposed to be passive fish. I noticed that 3 have shredded fins. It's been 3 weeks since I noticed and the damage has not healed yet. How long does the healing process take?

Neons nipping to the extent of shredded fins... I've never heard of. I have 16 neons in my 29gal without any nipping problems. Neons do show some form of aggression to each other... kindof the big boss wants to show who's boss, etc. and that's it.

Unless you're witnessing the fin nipping first hand, shredded fins may be a sign of other problems... check this link out:

I don't think it's fin rot...no sores or whitish coloring on the fin. Would melafix still help in the healing process?

How big is your tank? I've seen neons become more aggressive and fin nippy in smaller tanks, where they don't feel as secure and comfortable.

do they show signs of any disease? I have tetras that have swim bladder disease and they are constantly chasing each other! also, how's the water quality?

Interesting...I think a few of them have signs of swim bladder disease. Water quality is good. Anybody use melafix for the fins?
