Aggressive rainbow shark

My rainbow shark is about four inches long, including his tail. His "castle" is in the corner, but perhaps the castle is too small for him?? I have added a couple of plants today and am now adding six black neons. I don't think he has even noticed them yet. As I left the store, the lady from yesterday asked me what I was feeding my shark today. She thought she was funny, I didn't. But they did tell me that if I want to bring the shark back I could "trade him in" on something else. He is far too beautiful to trade in yet. I am now on the lookout for another "cave". Thank you all for your input and I will keep you posted on my new additions.

I wouldn't trade it either. Good luck with your fish.

So far there are no casualties. Could it be possible that he is OK with the smaller fish because they don't pose as much of a threat as a larger one? They seem to all be happy fish tonight.

My rainbow shark seems to leave my tetras alone. He goes after the gold and rosy barbs almost exclusively though I sometimes see him chase a tiger barb. My cherry barbs, and white skirt tetras are left alone.

Does your castle have an enclosure? When my shark is in his vase, he does not see the other fish in the tank and looses the urge to chase them as a result.

My rainbow shark seems to get along well with the other fish in my tank. He does however chase some new fish when I add fish to the tank. He has done this the last two times I have added fish but only does it for short period. I recently added a gold algae eater cat to my tank and he occasaionally will chase it but not for very long as he doesn't seem to be able to keep up. Does this sound like normal behavior? None of the other fish seem to show any territory issues even though I would have thought from what I have read to be seeing some from the gouramis.

Tank: 36 Gal. corner
Filter: Fluval 205
3 tetra
1 red flame gourami
2 blue dwarf gourami
1 gold gourami
1 gold algae eater cat
1 rainbow shark

easy solution is to get another shark.

They will keep each other "occupied" instead of harrassing your peaceful fish.
I had 2 shraks once in a 55 and they about killed eachother. One had no scales left. I had to remove the sick one, nurse him back to health and find a new home for him. Please do not get another shark. Maybe you could put the shark in a holding tank while you quarantine and add new fish to your 55 and then add him last. Sometimes that helps with territorial fish. Many times they will only attack the new inhabitants.
Hope this helps.
