Hello. I just added an angel to my tank today. I already had 2 and have had them for several months with no problems at all. I added the new one today and immediately one of my original fish attacked it. I chased it away and they were fine for a few minutes. The fish is also agressive towards the second of the original fish which strikes me as odd. The second of the two shows no aggression whatsoever to the new guy. In fact it seems like he's sticking up for him a bit. But as soon as he turns his back, the first one goes after the new guy. The first two are of the same size, and the new one is considerably bigger. Any help on what I can do? Will they get used to each other or will I have to seperate? Please help soon!

I just checked on them again and they were both being agressive toward one another and the new guy. I isolated to more agressive of the two for the time being and everything has calmed down. Are they just assessing domination and will get over it? The two original fish were locked together mouth to mouth trying to rip one anothers gills apart. I've never seen so much agression with any species, especially angels.

Angels are actually a pretty aggressive fish. Everyone assumes that there not. Did you change the tank around upon putting the new fish in. Also feed the fish first before you put them in. This sometimes helps in the fish not noticing the new fish being put in and they are not as likely to be as aggressive after eating. Sometimes when you have three, they will single the weakest out, or form a pair. Try adding another one. I wouldn't worry about it to much as this happens with all fish.

I've heard they're pretty agressive but I'd never seen it for myself. I didn't change the tank at all and they were feediing as I introduced the new guy to the tank. I think I'm going to keep them seperated until the new one gets acclimated. Hopefully he'll fight back after that. Between the move and the aggression, I don't want him to get TOO stressed, 'ya know?

if you can move the stuff in the tank around a couple of times in the first week or so that they are getting used to the third wheel. the exsisting hierarchy is beeing completely revamped with the new fish introduced so you need to throw the older fish(to the tank) off their game abit by mixing the visual territory markers up.

ahh, fishy psychology :) I did move a few things around. I also added another angel today. All seems perfect now. I think the main reason is b/c the new guy got acclimated and I watched him fight back a couple times. He's twice the size of the others, so I think they got the idea now :)
