i have cichlids right now, but i am planning on returning them because they just aren't that interesting to me. what are some really truely agressive, interesting, meat-eating, and hardy fish that will tear apart any other thing in the aquarium that i can have for a 29 gal?

a good non-cichlid for a tank that size would be something like a leaf fish, although they are by no means an "easy" fish.

Buck tooth tetras are PERFECT for you, although i dont know why their called buck tooth tetras they wont look like a hillbilly. They are carnivorous schooling tetras that should reach about 4 inches, they have no teeth but ive heard stories of them scaring full grown piranhas into corners, you could probably have 5 in there, but there could possibly be some aggression, dont keep them with other larger fish because they are known to be finnippers and feed off the scales of other larger fish for part of their diet.

A pair of convicts/firemouths would do well in a 29g tank.
