HI everyone!
I'm new to the community, but really need some help with my 10 gallon tank!
I set up the tank with 3 days ago (put in water conditioner, aquatic salt, and Cycle) and added a Molly 24 hous later because I had no where else to put her. The Molly was doing fine, but today my mother came home with two male Dwarf Gouramis from Wal-mart for me to put into the tank. I wasn't planning on addin any more fish for a few weeks, but I don't think Wal-Mart does fish returns and so ended up putting them in there as well.
Now, the bigger Gouramis is nipping at the other male and occasionally chasing the Molly... I don't know what to do! I read another thread saying that the two males nip at each other until one dies?!!!

Please help!!!!!!

I have an old 5 gallon fish bowl in the garage, but I don't know if that would hellp?

Any advice would really be apprieciated!!

2 DG's in a 10g is a problem IMO. My single male DG likes to bully my Angel that is quite a bit bigger than him in a tank that is over 3 times bigger than yours. Also, Keeping a gourami in a goldfish bowl is a no-no. Keeping anything in a goldfish bowl is usually a no-no lol.

i agree with jamieB. you can put a plastic divider in your tank to separate them. 10gallons is too small for the all of them and yes, gouramis have the tendency to bully other fishes. they would need a bigger space so that they have a larger area to swim away into but this does not assure that your gouramis would not nip or chase your mollies... i've learned a lot from it.

It's just not going to end good as is.... But Wal-Mart will do fish returns . I would take one back and then you will need to do about 30% water change every other day. Then your gourami should calm down and lay off your mollies. With luck and staying on top of your tank that may work.

Salt is not a good idea with gouramis. The mollies may benefit from it if your water is soft, but definitely not for gouramis.

NoraJ welcome to the forum. What i would do is thank your mom for the gouramis and politely tell her that they will have to be returned. With some questions in this forum and research you will find a perfect stocking solution for your 10gallon tank.

Also re: salt. You dont and wont need salt. A lot of places suggest it so that you will buy stuff from them. i almost fell into that trap but didnt have money that day. Hold onto the salt for a while in case you ever get ick in your tank. but besides that you can just leave it under your tank

It looks like no one has yet mentioned you should also read up on cycling your tank. Otherwise it will not end well for any of the fish that are in there.
