RTR said a wash bottle. Here's his post and instructions on what it is:

Not a bubble counter.

Well, a wash bottle with water added to it is the same as what is also called a bubble counter. I often call it a bubblecounter/scrubber because the scrubbing action is actually as important as the bubble counting in my opinion.

I described a bubble counter in aanother post here somewhere, so I did not rewrite that whole thing again, but if you use water in the bottle, you should have the input line go about 1" below the surface of the water and the output line is about 1" ( or more) above the water. The reason for that is that the depth of the water the gas has to push against adds pressure to the generator and if that water depth plus the water depth in the tank that the line has to work against is too much, the generator is likely to spring a leak somewhere.

If you don't add water, I think you will not get the scrubbing action of the gas bubbling through the water. Think of how a bong works, for those familiar with that concept. The water picks up all sorts of nasty stuff, in this case, yeast, for yeast spores are airborne. Bread dough can pick up yeast from the air, so yeast should travel up that gas line as easily. When it gets to the fish tank, it will create that white snot you sometimes get on the line.

So, clean the lines, scrub the gas. Call it what you will, I sure don't care, wash bottle or bubble counter or bong bottle, the effect is the same.
