SO 2 days ago, I went to petco and bought a citron goby and cleaner shrimp for my 12 gallon. The next morning, the cleaner shrimp was dead, but the goby perfectly fine. So i did a water change that morning and it was cool. SO we exchanged the shrimp for a coral banded shrimp. I just woke up to find it DEAD. I put their baggy in the water for around 30 minutes, then gradually started poking small holes in the bagover about 15 minutes, then opened the bag and put them in. They seemed perfectly normal, checking out the new tank, the coral banded shrimp had to snap at one of the clowns so he would bug off. i tested the params and got strange colors as results that were not even near the charts. It's time for a new test kit. But this time, I want an electronic one. Any suggestions?

Inverts can easily go into osmotic shock and you need to slowly acclimate them to your water. Best to:

1. test the salinity of the water in the bag from the store.
2. test the salinity in your tank
3. set up either a drip for 1-2 drops per second until the salinity matches or add a bit of water every 5 minutes or so until it matches
4. then empty the bag of water into a net or a coffee filter over a bucket or sink and put the invert into the tank.
5. I'd never ever allow the store water into my tank. Who knows how many parasites, metals or meds are in it.

Certainly agree with the above and its the most obvious suggestion as to why they have died in your tank.

I always recomend 1.5 hours for sensitive inverts like shrimps etc on the drip..
