AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH **** water hardness!

Man I just researched this out the wazoo

Things common between your tanks that could be causing a problem are only

Clay Pots & the wood you found

I've heard of people using clay pots many times with absolutely no issues

Found this link that talks about lime in aquariums and what they do to water

Sometimes cheap clay contains a significant amount of lime that is slowly releasing into the water column and will cause your pH to rise which in turn blah blah blah

Here's the link in case you're interested:

Also the wood that you said you found...Only wood I can find that would cause these types of issues is Rockwood...and I doubt that's what you found and put in your tank

Other than that I'm stumped

Tay, thanks for your help brother. I appreciate it.

I have spent so much time researching, its good to get some assistance for a change. Glad I joined this forum. The wood I told you about that I found outside, and rocks, were only in my breeder (heh attempting to breed at least) kribensis tank - have since been taken out.

The pots, 1 in each of my tanks (65gal and 20 gal), are actually not clay, rather they are biodegradable pots my fiance bought at Walmart, so now Im wondering if the pots are leaching out? hmmm degrading? I said on the packaging that it takes 10 years to degrade so I thought 1 year in my aquarium might be ok.

Although yes now I am wondering about the pots, one of them in my 65 gallon has only been in there 1 week and Ive had the hardness problem well before that.

Soo I will research the pots still. more input welcome.....

Anyone hear about meds increasing water hardness?
