Hi all just put a load of live rock in my tank which has got alot of AIPTASIA on it what is the best way to get rid of it. Ive heard a peppermint shrimp is a good way but ive only just set the tank up so i wont be able to put it in yet. Is there any chemical i can use because there is only rock and sand in at the moment. Thanks

inject the aptasia with calcium.

My personal favorite is coating the aiptasia with kalk paste, but Joe's Juice and Aiptasia-X both work. I've also known people to inject the aiptasia with lemon juice, vinegar, or boiling hot water. They all seem to work relatively well.

If using kalkpaste be careful, that stuff is toxic and can and will kill other corals around it. It will also kill part of the rock that the kalkpaste touches.

Pickling lime also works well. You have to have it where it is a paste. It will not hurt any corals in the tank.

Pickling lime paste = kalk paste, which is why many hobbyists use products such as Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime instead of paying many times more for hobby marketed kalk powder when they routinely dose kalk. Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime, however, is not quite as fine as of a powder as the hobby marketed kalk powders.

And yes, if you get pickling lime paste / kalk paste on corals, it will in most cases at least injure them with a chemical burn. Based on the original post, this would not be an issue since there's nothing in the tank other than the rock, sand, and water.
